Coachella is home to me for many reasons. Besides the California springtime sun grazing on the reunion of friends in the solitude of the desert with a photogenic backdrop, but the variety of big name headliners blended with up and coming acts and plot twists of surprise guests. I am just as excited to see the big headliners as I am to see the smaller acts and here are some of them.

Southern California natives, Silversun Pickups from, you guessed it, the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles are making their first appearence at the arts and music festival after dropping their first album, Carnavas in 2006. Lead singer Brian Aubert's mellow vocals parallel the easy going, laid back alt-rock rhythms. Aubert every once in a while belches into a loud local verse which the band calmly matches to bring back down the tempo of the song. Consider SSPU a child of My Chemical Romance + The Smashing Pumpkins. Distorting their instruments to form a unique sound and playing with some electronic elements, SSPU will be a good break to relax to while you soak in your energy from the sunset before the pre-game nighttime hype.

Another act you should check out this April caught everyone by surprise when the lineup was released thus making her performance one that nobody should sleep on. The reason being is that her performances are just as rare as seeing her, herself. Sia 's mellow live performances are filled with modern dancers that perfectly capture the emotion of her lyrics; pair that with her mysterious, literal "off to the corner" on-stage presence and Sia really does want her audience to focus on the music instead of her capturing her own fame. She has been around for quite some time writing music for Christina Aguilera to David Guetta but with her wide range of vocals that can shatter chandeliers, who knows when the next time it will be when Sia makes a live performance to an audience this size.

Hailing from New York, the alternative/indie/edm pop musical pop duo that are actual #RelationshipGoals are Matt & Kim. Kim on the drums, Matt on the piano and that is there is all to it. The duo started out as heavily marketing and distributing their own CD's outside of their own shows all over NYC. From literally banging hip hop hits on the drums and piano to Kim infamously twerking on top of the crowd as they embrace her presence, balloon drops, and throwing a large colorful tarp over the audience, Matt & Kim can host a party for all music lovers making their music easy to sing along to. They are no strangers to big time festivals having already performed at Lollapalooza, Ultra Music Festival, and Bonaroo. Now add their on-stage antics in the desert to a massive crowd and you have yourself one giant dance party from catchy sing alongs to thumping melodies. Just be sure to lend a hand when Kim decides to stage dive from her drum set into the palm of your hands.
